چکیده

In this paper we propose a generic recursive algorithm for improving image denoising methods. Given the initial denoised image, we suggest repeating the following ”SOS” procedure: (i) (S)trengthen the signal by adding the previous denoised image to the degraded input image, (ii) (O)perate the denoising method on the strengthened image, and (iii) (S)ubtract the previous denoised image from the restored signal-strengthened outcome. The convergence of this process is studied for the KSVD image denoising and related algorithms. Still in the context of K-SVD image denoising, we introduce an interesting interpretation of the SOS algorithm as a technique for closing the gap between the local patch-modeling and the global restoration task, thereby leading to improved performance. In a quest for the theoretical origin of the SOS algorithm, we provide a graphbased interpretation of our method, where the SOS recursive update effectively minimizes a penalty function that aims to denoise the image, while being regularized by the graph Laplacian. We demonstrate the SOS boosting algorithm for several leading denoising methods (K-SVD, NLM, BM3D, and EPLL), showing tendency to further improve denoising performance.

Convex Optimization for Parallel Energy Minimization

Energy minimization has been an intensely studied core problem in computer vision. With growing image sizes (2D and 3D), it is now highly desirable to run energy minimization algorithms in parallel. But many existing algorithms, in particular, some efficient combinatorial algorithms, are difficult to parallelize. By exploiting results from convex and submodular theory, we reformulate the quadra...

In this paper we outline several points of view on the interplay between discrete and continuous wavelet transforms; stressing both pure and applied aspects of both. We outline some new links between the two transform technologies based on the theory of representations of generators and relations. By this we mean a finite system of generators which are represented by operators in Hilbert space....

Doubly Balanced Connected Graph Partitioning

We introduce and study the Doubly Balanced Connected graph Partitioning (DBCP) problem: Let G=(V,E) be a connected graph with a weight (supply/demand) function p:V→ {−1,+1} satisfying p(V )= ∑ j∈V p(j)=0. The objective is to partition G into (V1, V2) such that G[V1] and G[V2] are connected, |p(V1)|, |p(V2)|≤cp, and max{ |V1| |V2| , |V2| |V1|}≤cs, for some constants cp and cs. When G is 2-connec...

Discrete Potts Model for Generating Superpixels on Noisy Images

Many computer vision applications, such as object recognition and segmentation, increasingly build on superpixels. However, there have been so far few superpixel algorithms that systematically deal with noisy images. We propose to first decompose the image into equalsized rectangular patches, which also sets the maximum superpixel size. Within each patch, a Potts model for simultaneous segmenta...
